On September 10, the official opening ceremony of the II International Water Management Exhibition and Conference - "Baku Water Week" was held in Baku. The event was held with the support of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA) and organized by the Caspian Event Organisers company.

The exhibition showcases the latest technologies, innovative solutions, modern world experience, and sustainable development models in the field of water management. The main goal of the event is to stimulate the development of water management in the country, ensure the attraction of new technologies and investments, and create an environment for open dialogue on existing challenges and ways to solve them.

The event “Global climate change”: The plenary session continued with the topic "Drought Risk Management in Azerbaijan". The event was attended by a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on "Ancient Hydraulic Systems - Kahriz", Director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Alovsat Guliyev delivered a report entitled  "The Role of Kahriz in Managing Drought Risks in Azerbaijan."

In his speech, Professor Alovsat Guliyev drew attention to the challenges posed by climate change in the country, emphasizing that, the decline in water resources, soil erosion, and intensification of droughts pose serious risks to agriculture. He highlighted the need for efficient management of water resources, noting that, the kahriz systems, which have existed since ancient times, are one of the important alternatives in this direction. The scientist noted that, until the 1990s, there were 332 wells in the currently liberated territories of Karabakh, and ammunition was discovered in some wells.

These systems are not only energy-independent, but also environmentally sustainable and economically viable. "As a result of the restoration of the canals and their integration with modern technologies, the water supply of agriculture can be improved, while at the same time the population's access to drinking water can be increased," Alovsat Guliyev said in his speech.

At the end of his speech, Alovsat Guliyev noted that, not only new technologies, but also hybrid approaches based on ancient but effective traditional systems are of particular importance in preventing climate change. In this regard, the Kahriz are a unique resource for Azerbaijan, both strategically and culturally.

“Baku Water Week” aims to contribute to the establishment of strategic partnerships in the field of water management by providing practical cooperation opportunities for both local and International participants.

It should be noted that, the exhibition brought together government agencies, international organizations, experts in the field, and professional visitors.
