The laboratory of organic fertilizers was established in 1945 on the basis of the department of agrochemistry of the Azerbaijan branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. On its basis, the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry was organized.

From the day of the creation of the laboratory of organic fertilizers, its head was Academician, State Prize Laureate, Honored Scientist, Doctor of Science, Professor, Full Member of ANAS J.M. Huseynov, and from 1975 to 2018 - Honored Scientist, Dr. Doctor of Science, Professor P.B. Zamanov.

Scientific direction of the laboratory of organic fertilizers for 2020-2022 is - agroecological features of the influence of fertilizers on the transformation of organic matter in the soil under the conditions of various agrocenoses. The Republic has a large amount of waste and residues that have a negative impact on the environment, polluting the environment; these include plant residues, sludge from fresh water bodies, manure, bird droppings, ash, waste from industrial processing of agricultural crops. The effect of composts prepared from these wastes, as well as vermicompost obtained by vermicultivation of earthworms, is studied, taking into account the norms and terms of application to the soil for its fertility, the assimilation of nutrients by agricultural crops, their yield, quality, as well as the testing of these fertilizers on saline soils. and soils with disturbed ecology. The results will be presented to agricultural workers, farmers, municipalities in the form of recommendations, newspapers, magazines, articles, radio and television.

The laboratory employs 15 employees, including 12 doctors of philosophy in agricultural sciences, of which 11 are leading researchers and 1 senior research assistant, as well as 1 research assistant and 2 laboratory assistants.
