The commemorative event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the 20 January tragedy was held at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.First, the memory of martyrs, who died for the independence of Azerbaijan, was commemorated with a minute of silence.The Director of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Alovsat Guliyev opened the event with his opening speech.The scientist said that, the 20 January tragedy was an important turning point in the history of our independence. On January 20, 1990, the people of Azerbaijan gave many martyrs for their freedom and independence, but their national spirit was not shaken.Alovsat Guliyev noted that, after the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to political power in Azerbaijan in 1993, the tragedy of 20 January received political-legal assessment at state level. That's why, “The triumphant outcome of the military operations carried out under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev for the liberation of the Azerbaijan’s territories in 2020 made the souls of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for freedom.
Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the Institute, Mammad Mammadov, spoke about the events he witnessed on 20 January tragedy, at the event. He noted that, the tragedy of bloody January are always remembered as a page of heroism in the memory and history of the Azerbaijani people.Then, professor Sara Mammadova and PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Amina Akhundova shared their memories about 20 Jaunary tragedy at the event.
