     An event was held at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December  5 - World Soil Day. The event was opened by the Director General of the Institute, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Alovsat Guliyev. In his speech, the scientist spoke about the importance of World Soil Day and noted that, this day is celebrated to draw attention to the importance of soil and promote sustainable management of soil and water resources. Speaking at the event, Corresponding Member of ANAS - Amin Ismayilov said that, the holding of this day was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002, and the UN General Assembly officially declared December 5 as World Soil Day in 2014. Amin Ismayilov provided information on land use in Azerbaijan and projects implemented by FAO.

   Speaking at the event - laboratory directors Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Mammad Mammadov, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences -Vilayat Hasanov, and Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Sciences -Amina Akhundova emphasized the irreplaceable role of soil for life, the Institute's significant activities in this field.
