A commemorative event was held at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the "Khojaly Genocide".

   Today, a commemorative event was held at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the February 26 "Khojaly genocide". At the beginning of the event, the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played and a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide. Opening the event with an introductory speech, Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Alovsat Guliyev stated that, the Khojaly tragedy was the most inhumane and horrific of the massacres committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijani people.

   The scientist emphasized in his speech that, Armenians have systematically carried out a policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis throughout history. The brutal massacre of civilians in Khojaly is a crime committed not only against the Azerbaijani people, but against all of humanity. Alovsat Guliyev noted that, the raising of the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in the city of Khojaly on October 15, 2023 is the restoration of historical justice and emphasized that, the blood of the Khojaly martyrs did not remain on the ground.

   Speaking at the event, PhD in Agrarian Sciences and executive director of the Institute - Shalala Salimova, also noted that the Khojaly tragedy was a crime against humanity not only for Azerbaijan, but for the entire world. He stressed the importance of full recognition of this bloody event by the international community, saying that everyone has a great responsibility to ensure that the tragedy is not forgotten and passed on to future generations.

   Chairman of the Institute's Council of Young Scientists and Specialists - Tarlan Yelmarli, provided the event participants with detailed information about the bloody tragedy that, occurred in Khojaly on the night of February 25-26, 1992. He noted that, this cruel genocide is engraved as a black mark not only on Khojaly, but also on the history of the Azerbaijani people as a whole.

   Tarlan Yelmarli emphasized that, the memory of the Khojaly martyrs will always live in the hearts of our people and this tragedy will never be forgotten.

 

   At the memorial event, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Vilayat Hasanov, and Doctor of Philosophy in Biology Zaman Mammadov also spoke about the horrors of the Khojaly genocide and the importance of communicating this tragedy more widely to the world community.

   They emphasized that, the Khojaly tragedy will remain forever in the memory of the Azerbaijani people and future generations will not forget this history.

   At the end, a video dedicated to the memory of the Khojaly victims was shown.
