February 25 A commemorative event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the "Khojaly genocide" was held at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS. At the event, employees of the Institute first commemorated the victims of the Khojaly genocide with a minute of silence. Opening the event, the chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS Mammad Mammadov said that , The Khojaly tragedy is another terrible example of the policy of occupation and ethnic cleansing of the Armenian nationalists and their supporters against the people of Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the event, Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Alovsat Guliyev noted that, The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan gave its political and legal assessment to the Khojaly genocide in 1994, at the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev, after his return to power. Thus, the date of February 26 was declared “Day of the Khojaly Genocide” and the truth about the genocide was conveyed to the world countries and international community.
Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party territorial organization of the Institute Zaman Mammadov stressed that, the "Khojaly tragedy" was a tragedy of the 20th century. On the night of February 25-26, 1992, helped by the 366th motor rifle regiment, the Armenian armed forces attacked the town of Khojaly to commit one of the gravest crimes against humanity.
Speaking later, Chairman of the Young Scientists and Specialists Council of the Institute Tarlan Yelmarli stressed, the importance of informing the world scientific community about this terrible crime committed against nation of Azerbaijan in Khojaly.The world community is already aware of this genocide as a result of the purposeful policy pursued by the leadership of Azerbaijan.The martyrs of Khojaly, will always live in our hearts and their memories will be cherished.
Scientists of the Institute, Mustafa Mustafayev and Vilayat Hasanov, spoke in detail about the events that took place in Khojaly on the night of February 25-26, 1992, noting that, The Khojaly tragedy is a continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide pursued by Armenian nationalists and their supporters against the people of Azerbaijan for up to 200 years.
A member of the Young Scientists and Specialists Council of the Institute, Sabina Tagiyeva said that, The Khojaly genocide saw the killing of 613 civilians, including 106 women and 70 elders. Eight families were completely annihilated, and 1,275 people were taken hostage. At the end of the event, a video dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy was shown.
